Meditation Improves Your Perception, Anyway You Look at It
02/11/2008 - By Laurie Tiger Desjardins Is your glass half-full or half-empty? If you're like most Americans, you don't have time for philosophical questions because your plate is so full!
Face it, the modern lifestyle moves at a frantic pace. Working too much, sleeping too little and worrying about everything from your bank account to global warming can take its toll on your perception.
See life in a whole new light
In a study done by Professor Jack Pettigrew, a neuroscientist from the University of Queensland in Australia, meditating monks were given visual perception tests. The monks were able to perceive more positive images than people who did not meditate. The study concluded that focused meditation can actually brighten your outlook on life!
The monks in the study used a meditation technique known one-point meditation, where attention is focused on a single object. This is exactly what the Zen Stick provides, a single object to stimulate your senses and help you achieve life-altering relaxation.
Meditation tools for the modern lifestyles
There are things besides Zen Sticks to help you reach a meditative state. Gongs, chimes, chants and incense are just a few, but by themselves, these aids only engage one or two of your senses at best. Can a few gentle chimes drown out the sound of your cell phone ringtone or instant message alarm? Probably not, but the smoothness, woodsy scent, lustrous sheen and clap-clap sound you experience while tossing and catching your Zen Stick definitely can.
Go ahead, relax. You'll be glad you did!
Are you a die-hard pessimist who's thinking that changing your point of view isn't worth the effort? Consider the opinion of German artist, Herm Albright.
Albright said, "A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort."
Meditation with your Zen Stick can also lower your blood pressure, treat depression and help you cope with chronic health problems, like migraine or back pain. And using your Zen Stick is practically effortless. You just hold it, sense it, throw it and catch it.
